New moon
Forces combined and dark nights. One of the best windows to strike by day.

Sport Fishing
On the rivers of Porto Jofre, the sky calls the day. We read the moon phases, the movement of the water and the weather to put you in the right place at the right hour.

The fishing here
Porto Jofre sits at the meeting of the Piquiri and São Lourenço rivers, one of the richest fishing stretches in the Pantanal. It is sport fishing, respecting each species' size and quota.
From the skiffs you work the banks, the eddies and the channel mouths after the great freshwater predators. The crew knows the spots and matches the lure to the river's mood.
Every outing comes back with a story. And, almost always, with the trophy photo before the fish is returned to the water.
Fishing in action
Straight from the boat rail: the strike, the fight and the thrill of fishing the rivers of Porto Jofre.
Gear and what to pack
We handle the boat, the guide and the local know-how. You look after your kit. This is the essential for a day's fishing in the Pantanal.
Medium and heavy setups for peacock bass and dorado, with a baitcaster for the big ones.
Surface and mid-water artificials, plus natural baits for pacu and catfish.
Reinforced braid and steel or fluorocarbon leaders against sharp teeth.
They cut the glare off the water and reveal the fish and banks below the surface.
Cap, buff, sunscreen and repellent. The Pantanal sun is strong all day.
Quick-dry fabric that covers the skin and eases the heat without weighing down the cast.
A fishing licence is mandatory. Our team guides you through it before the trip.
See the full packing listThe lunar calendar
Every Pantanal angler looks at the moon before looking at the river. It is not superstition, it is gravity.
The Moon and the Sun pull on the water and on the fish themselves. When the two line up, at the new and full moon, the forces add together and the movement of the water grows stronger.
That is the trigger: livelier current, more food on the move and fish more willing to strike. At the first and last quarters, with the Sun and Moon at a right angle, the forces cancel out and activity drops.
At syzygy (new and full), Sun, Earth and Moon fall in line and the pull adds up. At quadrature (the quarters), they sit at a right angle and the pull is split.
The moon today
…
Forces combined and dark nights. One of the best windows to strike by day.
Forces divided. Weaker activity, it takes a fine read of the river.
Forces combined and bright nights. Fish active, best at the start and end of the day.
Forces divided again. A slow rhythm, good for the patient angler.
Feel the pull
Bring the cursor near the sphere. It becomes a moon, and the water around is drawn toward it, like the gravitational pull that moves the waters.
